Unlike their fathers and grandfathers, today’s Chinese youth live in an era of abundance. Such asocial environment offers diverse choices and opportunities—they should be a free and spirited generation, and this is certainly part of the truth. However, within this group, some are also trapped in spiritual stagnation and impoverishment. While they believe the country is rising, they do not believe their own lives will get better. This contradictory generation of youth is bound to influence China’s future development and, as China’s international status rises, will further have a significant impact on the evolution of the world order. Understanding their life world and values has become an urgent task.
